Employment & Volunteer Opportunities

Sasamat Outdoor Centre hires employees for three seasons: spring, summer and fall. Each season has it's own application. If you wish to apply for multiple seasons you must submit an application for each season.

Spring Employment

Each spring Sasamat Outdoor Centre offers employment to qualified adults as leaders of our specialized outdoor education programs. Sasamat Outdoor Centre works with Vancouver Lower Mainland schools to provide outdoor education experiences and environmental education to children during day trips and overnight retreats.

We provide educational activity instruction in the areas of canoeing, kayaking, wood chopping, fire building, outdoor cooking, shelter building, hiking, archery, climbing wall, high ropes and low ropes, swimming, nature exploration and team-building challenge activities. Instructors are scheduled 4-8 hrs to lead activity stations.

NOTE: Spring schedules vary weekly depending on the program scope of each school. This is also not a residential position - no living accommodations are provided and staff must have their own transportation or plan to take public transit. For questions regarding program specifics, typical weekly schedule/hours or more, please e-mail kristen@sasamat.org.

Summer Employment

Each summer Sasamat Outdoor Centre offers employment to qualified adults and youth as leaders of our Sasamat Day Camp, Belcarra Day Camp, Residential Camp, Sasamite program, Voyageur/Ridgerunner programs and C.I.T. program. Sasamat hosts campers from all over the Lower Mainland and beyond every season, ranging in age from 4-17.

Summer staff are either residential or day staff, all of which provide ongoing care and support to their campers. Staff also provide activity leadership in the areas of canoeing, kayaking, wood chopping, fire building, outdoor cooking, shelter building, hiking, archery, climbing wall, high ropes and low ropes, swimming, nature exploration and team-building challenge activities. We are looking for people who are passionate about positive child development, the environment and summer camp!

NOTE: Summer residential positions do not include accommodation over the weekends. Sasamat Outdoor Centre hosts private rental groups over the weekends, and all staff must have alternative accommodations to stay in during the weekends from Friday evening to Sunday evening.

Fall Employment

Fall employment is a continuation of the spring programming. Employment opportunities will be the same as spring opportunities and take place during the months of September and October.

NOTE: Fall schedules vary weekly depending on the program scope of each school. This is also not a residential position - no living accommodations are provided and staff must have their own transportation or plan to take public transit. For questions regarding program specifics, typical weekly schedule/hours or more, please e-mail kristen@sasamat.org.
