It's December 13, 2013 and registration for Sasamat Outdoor Centre's Summer Camp 2014 is about to open - just in time for Christmas. Savvy parents will know to register early to avoid a disappointed child in the summer.
That disappointment is an annual event for many of BC's children - like finding nothing under the Christmas tree.
BC has the highest child poverty rate in Canada, according to a November 26, 2013 in the Vancouver Sun, with one in five kids considered statistically poor. That's a pretty strong indication that many of BC's kids will never have an opportunity to go to camp.
Can you help? Yes, and couldn't be more simple. When registering your own child, take the opportunity provided to add a donation to Sasamat Outdoor Centre's "Send A Kid To Camp" program. At any time, you can also click on the green "Send A Kid To Camp" button on the left side of Sasamat's web pages.
Every dollar you donate goes directly towards camp fees for a child in need. No administration fees. No hidden accounting. Tax receipts are provided for donations of $10.00 or more.
Dollar for dollar, it's one of the best gifts you can give this year. And Christmas is the perfect time to give.
