How HST Will Affect Residential Summer Camp Fees

posted on 3:01 PM, December 7, 2009

For the third year in a row Residential Camp fees at Sasamat Outdoor Centre will remain the same in summer 2010 at $390/session.

However, families will see an increase in applicable taxes to Residential Camp fees as the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will presumably come into effect on July 1st, 2010.

HST will combine the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 5% with BC’s Provincial Sales Tax (PST) of 7% to make a Harmonized Sales Tax of 12%.

Prior to the institution of HST all Residential Camp programs at Sasamat Outdoor Centre included GST in the final camper fee of $410/session (making the initial cost $390/session prior to tax). Now, with combining the two taxes of GST and PST to form HST the fee increase our families will see on their final fee can be attributed to the incorporation of PST on the Residential Camp programs.

For those families who register for Residential Camp programs before July 1st, 2010 HST will still proactively apply to the fee as the bulk (90%) of the service will be provided after the first of July.

In the case of Day Camp programs at Sasamat Outdoor Centre they will be exempt from HST as the program has not been taxed with GST and PST in the past.

If you have any further inquiries in to the HST transition and how it will affect you please contact the Province of British Columbia at 604-660-4524.
