Kristen Hyodo – Executive Director

Kristen is a true believer in the benefits of the summer camp experience and outdoor education, having spent her summers at camp since a young age. She joined Sasamat in 2014 as the Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Director and after spending five years growing programs, people and operations, Kristen moved into the role of Executive Director. She brings with her a wealth of experience and a diverse background in non-profit leadership and camping. Kristen looks forward deepening Sasamat’s community reach, strengthening Sasamat’s resiliency as an organization and positively impacting more lives with the joy of outdoor play.  

 

Andrew Dinnin – Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Director

Andrew loves spending time exploring the natural world, striving to teach through the experiences forged from outdoor adventure. Andrew has a degree in Recreation Management from Acadia University and has spent his professional life working for camps, teaching outdoor education, guiding white water adventure trips, and working as a professional wilderness guide. Having spent almost every summer since the age of ten at summer camp, Andrew values community and the self-discovery that comes from outdoor experiential education. With a diverse background of leadership and program management, Andrew hopes to cultivate transformative experiences for the Sasamat community to carry forward into their lives.

Ben Quinn – Operations Manager

Ben began his time at Sasamat at the age of six and hasn’t been able to leave since. Starting as a camper, he quickly realized that he is passionate about outdoor recreation and camping. Ben holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Diploma in Human Resources Management, and returned to SOC to support operations and human resources. Over the years Ben has worked in almost every position Sasamat has to offer, cultivating a breadth of experience that ranges from leading children through the outdoors to running databases and registration systems. Having worked at Sasamat for over a decade, Ben brings a well-rounded approach into the leadership of Sasamat.

 

Brandon Judd – Facility Manager

Brandon joined Sasamat after many years in building maintenance at K-12 independent schools. He grew up without the camp experience but enjoys his time outdoors on a dirt bike or motorcycle. Brandon appreciates the break from the modern world that Sasamat offers, allowing him to connect with nature in small ways each day. He recognizes camp as a powerful educational tool in youth development and camaraderie. With his background in various trades, Brandon is a problem-solver and dedicated to creating safe and positive outdoor experiences for campers.

Nadia Martini – Food Services Manager

Nadia is Sasamat’s long serving Food Services Manager. Having been with the organization for more than fifteen years, Nadia has cultivated the food service program at SOC to become an integral part of every participant’s experience. With a strong Italian heritage, Nadia enjoys her role of nourishing those around her with hearty, healthy and delicious food, taking on the role as host more often than not. As a Red Seal Chef with professional culinary training, Nadia brings a high level of quality to Sasamat’s food experience. Handling everything from hundreds of hungry children, to customized multi-course wedding reception dinners, Nadia’s versatile skillset is enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year.


Our Community Board of Directors

 

  Valder Belgrave - Chair

Valder joined the board in 2000 and became involved with the Sasamat community as a BC Transit Volunteer with the United Way Day of Caring, he has been a proud dock builder since 1998. Valder’s professional background is in marketing and communications.

 

Moyra Crawford - ANHBC Board of Directors Representative

Moyra joined the board in 2015, and has served at the ANHBC Board of Directors Representatives for SOC since 2016. She became involved with Sasamat through her children, who were both campers, volunteers and employees at Sasamat through their formative years. Moyra’s professional background is in the corporate legal sector.

 

Rozy Jivraj - Treasurer

Rozy joined the board in 2018, becoming involved with SOC as a teenager participating in the Leadership program. She subsequently worked as a camp counsellor and sent her children to camp as well. Rozy’s background is in the financial field, working as a Chartered Accountant.

Heather Corbett - Member at Large

Heather joined the board in 2021, originally becoming involved with SOC as a participant in the Leadership program. She also worked as the Assistant Director of the day camp program for a summer during university and has sent her two boys to camp for many years. Heather's professional background is in event planning and administration in the non-profit and municipal government sectors.

 

Sheri Parke – Member at Large

Sheri joined the board in 2004, originally becoming involved with SOC as a Leadership student. Sheri later worked in the SOC office for six and half years, Sheri’s professional background is in neighbourhood house and community service work.  

Robert Simons – Member at Large

Robert joined the board in 2017 and was introduced to SOC through fellow community members as a Port Moody resident. Robert is involved with numerous non-profit organizations with a keen interest in community development. Robert’s professional background includes corporate finance, business development and product and marketing management.

 

Carolyn Courage– Member at Large

Carolyn joined the board in 2022. She became involved with Sasamat through her child who is a current camper. Carolyn has fond memories of attending and working at a summer camp during her childhood and teen years, and would like to support the same experience for others. Carolyn works professionally in Human Resources.

Krystil Koethler– Member at Large

Krystil joined the board in 2023. She was introduced to Sasamat through her children who came as campers. Krystil was introduced to the outdoors as a young camper and was immediately hooked. Over the years she worked in various roles at camps as a counsellor, outdoor educator, and teacher. Her love for connecting others with adventure and nature continues to inspire her work.
