Sasamite Nature Club is an engaging introductory program for our youngest campers. Sasamites is all about exploration, play and imagination, and serves to welcome 4 and 5 year old kids to camp for the first time. Our dynamic staff create a magical themed week for our Sasamite campers that brings stories to life through music and costumes. Sasamite Nature Club operates separately from the rest of camp, with different start and finish times than day camp (i.e. 10:30am -2:00pm) to ensure less overwhelming drop-offs and pick-ups. Sasamite campers will be in one large group with eleven other campers.
Sasamites features a 1:4 staff to camper ratio for our youngest campers. Sasamat Outdoor Centre camp staff are high achieving senior high school or post-secondary students that undergo a six day in house training program prior to the start of summer camp. Sasamite activities include swimming, music time, paddling in a Voyageur canoe, crafts, and lots of games focused on nature engagement. Our Sasamite Nature Club counsellors are incredibly supportive, helping all campers to learn how to listen to instructions, take care of themselves, ask for help – and of course have fun!
If you’re wondering if your child is ready for Sasamite Nature Club, use the following questions as guidelines:
Can my child go to the bathroom by themselves?
Can my child feed themselves?
Can my child get changed mostly on their own?
Can my child function in a group setting with close supervision (i.e. not one-on-one supervision)?
If you answered yes to these questions, sounds like it’s time to come to camp! If you answered no to a question but your child is within the age range for Sasamite Nature Club, we encourage you to call our office to discuss your child’s camp-readiness with our staff.

Sasamites Logisitics:
Transportation
Sasamat doesn’t provide transportation for Sasamite Nature Club, as we find the young campers adjust more easily when brought to camp by a caregiver. Sasamite Nature Club campers must be dropped off and picked up at Sasamat Outdoor Centre.
Facilities
Sasamite Nature Club campers will be based out of Sasamite Village, a whimsical area with small tables and tents along Cottage Trail. Sasamite Nature Club campers will also be picked up and dropped off at the Sasamite Tent.
Note that bathrooms are centrally located in the Main Lodge, and are standard adult bathrooms.
Food
Campers in the Sasamites Nature Club must bring their own lunch, snack and water bottle each day. Please do not pack any nut products in your camper’s lunch!
If you still have questions about our Day Camps, please visit our FAQ page or Pre-camp Info Guide, or contact us at info@sasamat.org. Learn more about all of Sasamat’s program areas.
